The Tired Donkey has been absent for two days because he has been busy working in our nation’s capital. The Tired Donkey is torn about this: he loves the city, but hates what goes on in it. It is like visiting the house you loved as a boy and discovering it has been turned into a brothel. By chance, the Tired Donkey’s visit coincided with the height of the cherry blossom display around the Tidal Basin, the result of a gift of 3000 trees from Tokyo in 1912. The Tired Donkey is thankful for this as he always is for unexpected gifts.
Speaking of unexpected gifts, the Tired Donkey’s mother sent him an email early this week in which she described the Tired Donkey’s posts as “thoughtful, smart and deep.” Thanks, Ma Donkey. She also went on to say that she believes the Tired Donkey may have been writing too much each week and thereby making it difficult for his readers to keep up. Hmmm. The Tired Donkey believes Ma Donkey may be underestimating his readers, but he must admit that the pace has been exhausting of late. He may slow down a bit and try to be a little less tired.
Finally, the Tired Donkey has a demand to make of his readers: post comments. Many of you email the Tired Donkey directly, and this makes it appear that no one is reading his posts. In fact, the opposite is true. But it looks dead on the page. Thus far, only “Jake” has posted a comment, letting the Tired Donkey know that the Tired Donkey inspired him to leave Mississippi. Or something like that.
Weekend reading tomorrow. More substance next week.
